The more time Josh spends with Freddy, the more dangerous the situation becomes. Josh's overbearing father, Mike, and his friend Paul, warn the kid to stay away from the tramp. They tell Josh that the tramp is not right in the head; that there is something wrong with him.
Josh ignores his father & Paul, and continues seeing Freddy; giving him food to eat, helping him search for Charlie. To Josh, Freddy seems harmless enough, he's friendly and wouldn't hurt a fly.
Violence escalates. Mike and Paul attack Freddy, warning him to stay away from Josh, otherwise next time they'll be more brutal. Freddy isn't the same after the attack and tells Josh that it might be a good idea if they stop seeing each other from now on. Josh doesn't want to, but Freddy says it's for the best. But unbeknownst to what lies ahead, it might be too late to save their friendship.
